A little girl running from napalm, US soldiers burning houses, US planes spraying Agent Orange. These are pictures showing the ferocity of the Vietnam War more than 40 years ago.

US aircraft sprayed Agent Orange in southern Vietnam in June 1966. The toxic chemical spraying campaign of Washington took place from 1962 to 1971, with the codename Ranch Hand. The objective of the campaign was to destroy the natural camouflage of the northern army to prevent them from entering the south.

The body of an American soldier is taken to a helicopter in Tay Ninh. Washington suffered heavy losses of life and property when participating in the war in Vietnam. About 58,000 soldiers were killed and more than 300,000 were wounded in the war. In addition, it also lost 9,000 aircraft, helicopters and other equipment.

The photo by Nick Ut, AP photographer, is an iconic image depicting the ferocity of the war. In the photo, Phan Thi Kim Phuc is running and crying after the American army dropped napalms on Trang Bang, Tay Ninh, 1972. The main character in the photo met Nick Ut later. She currently lives in Canada with her husband and children.
