Police say the pair were armed with a gun and machete and wearing masks on their faces when they burst into the HCM City-Long Thành-Dầu Giây Expressway’s toll collection office and threatened staff.
They escaped with the cash but were arrested on Friday at Sài Gòn Raiway Station in HCM City, discussing sharing the money and how best to get away.
Police have named the pair as Trần Tuấn Anh, 26, from the Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta province of Tiền Giang, and Nguyễn Vũ Hoàng Nam, 29, from the northern province of Nam Định.
They say they are both employees at the collection station.
The robbers carried out the raid on Thursday at the toll collection office in Đồng Nai Province. They threatened and assaulted staff before demanding cash from the safe, filling their backpacks with the money and fleeing on a motorbike towards Commune Street No 25, according Đồng Nai Police.
