Illegal surrogacy service discovered

Police in the northern province of Quang Ninh believed eight Vietnamese were involved in an illegal surrogacy service.

Colonel Thai Hong Cong talked about the case at a recent meeting

 

According to Colonel Thai Hong Cong, deputy director of Quang Ninh Province’s Department of Police, the women, who are from the Mekong Delta region, admitted that they entered China illegally through Lang Son border area.     

When being found by Quang Ninh Police at a local hotel on December 14, most of them were aged between 15 and 16 and their families face financial difficulties.

According to the women, they went to China in April 2018 for surrogacy service. They were promised to be provided with an amount of money for their daily lives during their pregnancy. When they give the birth successfully, they would pocket around VND150-200 million (USD6,521-8,965).

The group were detained by Chinese police and expelled to Vietnam on November 11 via Mong Cai border area in Quang Ninh Province.

HCM City police recently arrested a Chinese citizen named Cai Guo Lin along with some Vietnamese women as part of investigations into a surrogacy network.

Paid surrogacy is illegal in Vietnam under Article 187 of the 2015 Criminal Code.
